Fantasy. Mystery. Young Adult Fiction. HTML:

After her sister Athena's tragic death, it's obvious that grief-stricken Persephone "Phe" Archer no longer belongs in Los Angeles. Hoping to make sense of her sister's sudden demise and the cryptic dreams following it, Phe abandons her bubbly LA life to attend an uptight East Coast preparatory school in Shadow Hills, MA -- a school which her sister mysteriously mentioned in her last diary entry before she died.

Once there, Phe quickly realizes that something is deeply amiss in her new town. Not only does Shadow Hills' history boast an unexplained epidemic that decimated hundreds of its citizens in the 1700s, but its modern townies also seem eerily psychic, with the bizarre ability to bend metal. Even Zach -- the gorgeous stranger Phe meets and immediately begins to lust after -- seems as if he is hiding something serious. Phe is determined to get to the bottom of it. The longer she stays there, the more she suspects that her sister's untimely death and her own destiny are intricately linked to those who reside in Shadow Hills.

I'm a audiobook reader, listener whatever. Most of the time when people said this was a real page turner,I didn't actually get what they were talking about. Now there is no doubt in my mind that I know exactly what they were talking about.

I couldn't change the page fast enough. I was always trying to figure out what was going on. It only took me two sittings because I had to work the next day and had to go to bed.

I have to admit though that I did like Phe and Zack better before they were in their relationship, but that just might be.

Overall it was a good read and I recommend this to anyone that loves a suspense with a little paranormal splashed in.

I have to admit that by reading the back of this book and the description of the book, it did not really catch my attention. The cover is pretty, but I was not pulled to it. Yes I am one of those who picks a book up because of the cover. Then I read the back and maybe the first two pages and if I like it I buy it. Anyway, I finally did pick it up because of the reviews and also because of Skyla11377 (http://skyla11377.blogspot.com). I am so glad that I did pick it up and listened to everyone. See, reviewing a book helps! LOLThis book was REALLY GOOD! This is Anastasia's debut YA Novel and I am hoping there will be more! Right from Chapter one this book kicks off. So much mystery and suspense I just couldn't put it down. I also really like Anastasia's writing style. I felt she did a good job at describing things and made it so easy to picture in your head.Phe and her friends are so easy to like. Including her stuck up rich friend, Adrianna. I think Anastasia developed her characters very well and gives you just enough background on them without taking away from the story. There is also Zach, who knows he shouldn't be talking to Phe or even thinking about her, but just can not help himself. Who doesn't love to read a story about boy meets girl, but boy and girl should not be? I know I do! You can feel the chemistry between Zach and Phe. And the way he falls for her is just so sweet! I loved their relationship from the very first moment they meet. Zach is willing to risk everything just to be with Phe, including the chance of exposing what he really is and his families secrets.Though some things were predictable, there were also a lot of things that I had no idea was coming. Phe goes through a lot of changes and continues to have crazy dreams. She also has a mark that continues to take shape on her skin. She discovers who she really is and what the town is hiding. At the same time she finds true love. I give this book 5 stars and definitely recommend it! ( )

The book has a very cool book trailer. (see it on my blog)Since her sister’s mysterious (turns out there was nothing that mysterious about it) death, Persephone “Phe” Archer has been plagued by prophetic Dreams and visions. Determined to find out what happened to her sister, Phe enrolls at Devenish Prep in Shadow Hills, Massachusetts—the subject of her sister’s final diary entry....Read my full review on my blog: http://www.darkangelwritingandreviews.com/2010/04/review-shadow-hills.html ( )

Shadow Hills is a stunning debut from author Anastasia Hopcus. Do not be fooled into thinking that this is some ordinary paranormal romance. For one thing there are no vampires or werewolves in sight. Instead, Hopcus has create her own new world in Shadow Hills, Massachusetts, where the townies have a dark secret.

Filled with mystery, romance, mythology and suspense, Shadow Hills is a captivating book that will drag you into the plot and not let you go until the last page. Phe comes to Shadow Hill to see why her sister, who died, was interested in Devenish. Phe ends up learning a lot more then she bargained for when coming to Shadow Hills. While there are overlapping story lines, Hopcus writing is so clear that all the story lines fit and easily blend together without leaving the reader confused.

Shadow Hills was such a page turner. The plot was so rich in mystery and suspense I just had to keep reading to figure out all the mysteries of Shadow Hills as Phe was figuring them out. The ending of the book nicely tied up many of my questions, but still left me wanting more. I want to learn more about these characters introduced to us by Hopcus. I want to know more about Phe and the powers she has and I would love to see more of Zach and learn about the Brevis Vita more. When I reached the last page, I wanted more because I was intrigued by the story and the world Hopcus had created. Shadow Hills is a fantastic and unique debut. I am looking forward to reading whatever she writes next. ( )
