It is 1836 in Texas, and Alandra Sandoval is the lady in charge of Rancho Sandoval. (You would know Alandra from reading book one, "The Desires of Her Heart", and also be familiar with the other people in this story, so I encourage you to read them in the order written). Alandra is a proud young lady who will be forced to accept the help of a top hand at a nearby ranch, Scully Falconer. Though their paths are worlds apart, this American cowboy and proud lady of Mexico will come to depend on each other and eventually come to love each other. They will be caught up in all that is happening with General Santa Anna and his army and the Battle of the Alamo.

This was a really good historical romance that helped me understand all that went on to gain Texas. There was a lot of history, but it was wrapped up in the story of these people very well. I loved the slow way Scully and Alandra came to appreciate and care for the other and the way they each changed. There will be kidnapping, greedy relatives who want to steal the land, and the war and all its horrors, but the love and steadfastness of these people during that time will prevail. I look forward to the completion of this series with the next story, "Her Abundant Joy". ( )
