I'm not really sure why but it took me a lot longer to finish this book than it should have. After reading a little and putting it down, I would pick up another book instead. Then I would default to another new book before thinking that I should get back to this one. I just wasn't feeling pulled back in. Sure, it's difficult to feel pulled in when it's a month between putting the book down and picking it up again, but each story should leave me intrigued and excited enough to want to read the next story. Not feeling "meh". Since it is a short story collection, it was actually easier to not read it after finishing one story because I wasn't at risk of forgetting the characters or losing the plot. The only thing I lost was an overall feel for the book. The individual stories weren't bad. I have three favorites out of the eleven stories which is maybe a little low but I don't remember any duds so that should be counted as a positive. Looking back on my recent reads, I haven't been overly loving the short story collections so maybe that is it. Hopefully, you'll try the book and get through it with more enthusiasm than I did.

"Quiet Bullets" by Christopher Golden - A young boy fights for his mother.

"The Forgotten Kingdom" by Mike Resnick - A Lucifer Jones story. How can you ever go wrong with a Lucifer Jones story! No matter where in the world he is, Lucifer Jones is a fun read.

"The Brown Bomber and the Nazi Werewolves of the S.S." by Matt Venne - An ex-boxer joins the army and ends up fighting Nazi werewolves. The fun just bursts from the title. ( )

Modern writers trying to write in the style of the old pulps sometimes works & sometimes doesn't. Trust your editors on this one—this anthology works. ( )
