This is a cute number book that interprets the traditional rhyme in a new way up to 20. The hidden chicks are an added surprise for every young reader!I will definitely use this in the classroom to reinforce number and rhyme concepts. ( )

Mixed media on watercolor paper, the strangely beautiful, yet slightly, appropriately grotesque illustrations satisfyingly portray the tale of a Louisiana lady's pet/baby possum. As a native Louisianian whose husband had a pet possum, I'm partial to this piece, but the loving reviews of the late Coleen Salley's work by Horn, Kirkus, and Booklist demonstrate that my appreciation for this book is not misplaced. It's an inviting story with characters that readers will enjoy. ( )
