I received this through Early Reviewers giveaway. I couldn't even get all the way through it. There is nothing new in it and it just seemed like a big ad for their upcoming seminars. Nothing is cohesive and it felt like it was written in a big hurry. The two authors take turns writing and it seems as though they just stuck their pieces together instead of actually collaborating. I've read the other reviews, and it's true the book doesn't really tell anybody anything new. What i liked about it is the inspiration that both writers shared in the book from their own lives, and they suggested some tips on how to put SAIL into practice. The book reminds me of Eckhart Tolle work, which was enlightening, and this work supports that. Glad i got to read it. ( )

I really WANTED to like this book, and I did - bits of it. But it is truly a case of sifting out the good from the bad. Their premise is that you control your reactions to things, you control whether you suffer through bad times or find joy in them. It's not a new idea, by any means. And I agree with it.

However, the authors, especially in the forgiveness chapter, seem to minimize the horrors that some people endure. An excerpt: 'Based on your own personal set of rules, you may believe that you have been wronged and hold the power of forgiveness, but remember that the other party acted according to their own set of rules. Believing that one's own rules hold supreme importance in the universe is an act of ego that is a sure cause of great suffering.' Well, sure, that is very true when a friend stands you up for dinner or when your boss humiliates you in front of a roomful of people.

However, I am not a relativist. I do believe there is good and evil in this world. And I do believe that people do not always act according to their set of rules. Sometimes people do things they know they should not and that are truly wrong and evil. And sometimes, those things are incredibly hurtful to others - rape comes to mind. The entire forgiveness chapter seemed to be saying, 'It's not that bad. It's all in your head.'

I am a huge advocate of forgiveness. I definitely agree with the authors that forgiveness is for US, not for those who have wronged us. But it is also important to acknowledge the pain and hurt and suffering in order to be able to release it. I think the authors failed here.

This book would have been better titled Death By Metaphor. It was full of trite references and was one of the worst books I have read recently. Save yourself the time - life is too short to read bad books. ( )

Blah, Blah, Blah . . . this book was terrible. While initially an interesting concept of two authors it quickly became annoying because it wasn't as if they were having a conversation, but more talking over each other. Neither was adding anything to what the other was saying. I spent a long time trying to ascertain exactly who JLH was and what his qualifications were for writing a self-help book. I also found it quite conceded that of the many quotes through out the book the majority are attributed to the authors of the book - as if we weren't already getting enough of what they had to say and that there are so very few other worthwhile quotes out there in the world. I found unbounded happiness when I counsciously chose not to continue reading this book. ( )
