A play by Upton Sinclair, The Naturewoman is a girl from a Boston family who comes back after living with her father on a South Sea island. Oceana returned to Boston to receive her inheritance from her grandfather. The rest of the family, especially her overbearing Aunt Sophronia Masterson are upset because they excepted the grandfathers fortune to come to them. Lewis used this story as a device to show how conventional attitudes suppressed creativity, joy and even life in the American of his time. I don't know if this play was ever actually produced on stage. The story reaches a peak when Oceana performs a native south pacific dance for her family and their proper Bostonian friends. I could call The Naturewoman both a relic of another time and a message that speaks to our day. ( ) sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
