For one, I liked the writing because it flowed nicely and was organized. The story went from one major event to the next by using smaller events in between. For example, in the story in between Raggedy Ann and her friends sliding into a log and them taking home a kitten, the story explains how the kitten was found in the log after they went sledding. Next, I liked the point of view. It was in third person, which allowed the narrator to describe how each of the characters felt and thought. When the group of friends found the kitten, the narrator was able to describe each of their reactions. Finally, I liked the plot of the story because I think it could easily engage younger students who like animals. In the story, there is a lonely kitten and the characters take it in and house it. I think younger children who like animals would like the decision the characters made and would want to read this story. The big message of The Christmas Kitten is that it is nice to lend a helping hand. In the story, the friends help the kitten and everybody is happy and feeling loved in the end.
