Series note: Once again the focus is on a couple introduced in an earlier book. Nevertheless, Reece recaps all the important points in the prologue, and the book can be read as a standalone.

The story starts out well with the build-up of tension both in terms of Lucas and McKenna's romance and the details concerning McKenna's past. Unfortunately, the plot loses believability in the second half, and the final twist is obvious early on.

Lucas is an intriguing combination of alpha bad-ass and caring lover. His patience and gentleness with McKenna are very endearing. That said, the fact that he has her investigated and makes decisions without consulting her is paternalistic and condescending.

McKenna is an appealing heroine. She is strong and resilient, and one cannot help admire the way in which she turns the trauma of her past into an opportunity not only for self-empowerment but also into a method for helping others.

As with the previous villains in the series, McKenna's nemesis is truly vile, but his obsessive and twisted monologues are a bit much after a while. Moreover, it is annoying that Lucas dispatches him quite easily and McKenna does not get the chance to rid the world of his obnoxious presence.

Overall, a fast-paced and engaging read, but Reece needs to work on the credibility of her endings. ( )

Incredible! I was looking forward to reading McKenna's story and I knew Lucas would be in it. McKenna had one of the roughest backgrounds so far from the people we've read of LCR, but that just made her one incredibly strong minded woman with some backbone and the awesome ability to kick some fine a**. Lucas was so freaking YUMMY with all that sexiness and that incredible british accent that I created on my mind ;). Their relationship was carefully built upon McKenna's ability to trust him and then give herself to another person after everything Damon made her go through. Lucas was sensitive to her issues, but human enough to make some pretty serious mistakes, though things could not be only sunshine and flowers for the pair of them. Another incredible adition to a fantastic series! ( )

So good! I've looked forward to reading McKenna's story since she was first mentioned in the series. And Lucas Kane ... no words! Excellent read. ( )

I am reading these pretty much back to back! I am really glad that my friends pointed me into the direction of this delightful series. I totally recommend this to anyone who likes Romantic Suspense!

Mckenna's story was especially moving! Grab some hankies!
