I was always curious about the Moomintrolls as I kept seeing their images from time to time. I always thought they came from a television show, never realizing that the series began from an international comic strip. Their adventures and shenanigans remind me of comics such as the Smurfs, where creatures have random adventures. Unlike the Peanuts Comic Strips previously read, where most strips did not connect and were stand alone stories, the Moomin comic did have longer stories that referenced eachother. World building was quicker with this series than other comic strips. The fourth volume dealt with the Moomin family, specifically Moominpappa, building a time machine that allowed them to visit several historical places. It is obvious how stereotypical images and thoughts were when depicting people, as when the Moomin family travel in time to the Wild West and end up confronting Native Americans. Stereotypical imagery was used and the Moomin family expressed their ignorance. Nevertheless, the art style is simplistic and cute. It may take some time to understand the lore of this series! Imagine my delight when I found these, my favorite books from childhood that are out-of-print in Sweden! I think every Nordic person has Mumintrollen living somewhere in their heart, and although these books are translated into English and it's a little bit harder to "hear" their Finnish-accented Swedish, they are still as fantastic as I remember them. Muminpappa cherishes his crazy adventures, Muminmamma her home and hearth, Snorkfröken her romances, and Mumin himself just wants everyone to be happy and get along. Different as they are, they have one over-riding goal in common: to have fun! The ultimate in anarchy, you just can't help but admire their guts and gusto and their complete devotion to each other. Or, as the character Stinky puts it, "Indeed you are the most idiotic family I ever saw - but you are at least living every minute of the day!!" sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
