Cromwell Dixon is a young scientist who is set on making the very first flying bicycle--a sky-cycle. He successfully creates one and wins a prize at the 1907 St. Louis Airship Carnival.
I enjoyed this book because Cromwell perseveres when things go badly. I also like that it teaches children science in a very fun and lighthearted, creative manner. Children can learn more about how things were back over a century ago. This protagonist never doubts himself and always aspires to do great things, and children can be inspired to do the same by reading this book. I love the positive message! ( )

This book takes a look into Cromwell Dixon's famous invention called the Sky-Cycle. At 14 years old, Dixon invented a flying machine that would pave the way for inventors after him. This book would be great to read in a 1-3 grade Social Studies class. It can also teach students to never give up on something that might not work the first time. ( )

This book was very colorful. The town had real life buildings and details. In the middle of the story one page had a dark setting because a disaster struck and it ruined the first sky-cycle. After that the book went back to the colorful pages and the little boy rebuilt the sky-cycle even better than the first one. I enjoyed this book it would be a good book to share with children so they can have some background knowledge on air inventions. ( )

Cromwell Dixon was a kid inventor in Ohio specializing in aviation. With his mother's help, he crafted what he called a sky-cycle. Initially, his invention blew up before he was able to test it. With determination, he rebuilt it and tested it in front of the whole town. There was a mishap in the air, but he remained calm and acted quickly to fix it. He landed safely and everyone was impressed. According to the author's note, Cromwell entered many contests for flying contraptions but never won any. The setting is at the turn of the century and had a profound effect on many Americans, especially regarding innovation. ( )

This book tells the story of a young boy named, Cromwell Dixon. This little boy isn't just a common boy who likes cars and plays in the mud. He is an inventor. He works extremely hard on all of his inventions. He invents creative things such as a rowboat out of four rowers, a mechanical fish from old clocks, and other gadgets. He kept up on all the new inventions that were happening around the world; skyscrapers, ocean liners, and light bulbs. The St. Louis Airship Carnival, of 1907, was coming up and Cromwell went to work on building an Airship to enter the race. Cromwell sketches ideas and came up with the Sky Cycle. With hard work, he accomplished it and entered in the race. All of the ups and downs, he achieved his goal and passed the finish line. He was the youngest one to complete the race.

The last page has background knowledge about the life of Cromwell Dixon. He achieved many great things in his life time. ( )
