In his own very unique way, John Grogan makes all of us feel more connected to each other and less like strangers living in a strange land.… (más)

Don't blame John Grogan. I knew before I boarded this sailboat that it would take a lot for a collection of columns to "wow" me. In my estimation, many essay anthologies are the book-equivalent of eating cotton candy. When the pleasant taste fades, you wonder if you really had anything to eat. Having said that, the talented author of "Marley & Me" can be credited for serving up a diversified mix of topics. A handful of columns are thought-provoking and even inspiring. But in the end, I'm simply not a fan of essay collections. Note to self: skip future column anthologies unless there's a compelling reason to do otherwise. ( )
