Nada que ver con el Black Swan de Nassim Taleb. Relato corto (y oscuro, muy oscuro) sobre la posibilidad de los múltiples universos y las interacciones entre ellos. Creo que es lo primero que leo de Bruce Sterling y me ha dejado bastante frío, la verdad ( )

The premises are interesting: a travel among grimy alternate Italies, and the role of "black swan" (that is an unexpected turning point event). The execution, however, suffers the common alternate history disease: too much talk and not enough show, we learn the existence of other parallel worlds, but none of them becomes real. The story ends abruptly, without any conclusion about the Massimo Montaldo's true identity and Nicolas Sarkozy's roles in the alternative Europe. Sterling doesn't actually develop his premises, like he realized too late the space needed to elaborate the background and decided to end it quickly.
I'm glad to have bought "Black Swan" in the 40K's Spring Offer, because this short story doesn't worth 2.99 Euros. ( )

O jornalista ético protege uma fonte confidencial. Então eu protegi “Massimo Montaldo”, embora eu soubesse que aquele não era o seu nome.Cada vez que eu fazia uso da indiscrição de Massimo, o acesso ao meu blog dobrava.
Havia oito “Massimo Montaldos” no Google e nenhum era ele. Massimo provinha de lugares desconhecidos, deixava suas informações, como preciosos ovos de ouro, e então navegava de volta por águas escuras. Eu o protegia com esses favores. Certamente que havia outras pessoas muito curiosas a seu respeito, além de mim.

A black swan is a unique event which triggers a certain future. An IT journo meets a hacker contact in a cafe in Turin. The technology developments he hears about get more and more unbelievable until the hacker takes him outside the cafe, and uses his laptop to take them to the same cafe, but in another reality. Then things really start to get weird (e.g. the Sarkozies get an unflattering walk on part). A superb meditation on the multiverse well spiced with mordant observations on contemporary life. ( )
