Tori comes to Sweet Briar, South Carolina from the big city (Chicago), she is taking over as head librarian. Needless to say the former librarian isn't too friendly towards her. Tori joins a sewing circle and is starting to be accepted by this small town when she finds a dead body behind the dumpster near the library. It's naturally a close knit town so fingers naturally point towards the new girl. ( )

This is an excellent debut book. Torie (Victoria) takes a job as a head librarian at a small town in S.C. where she finds out that she is replacing a long-standing head librarian, who just happens to hate her guts for this turn of events. Torie starts making friends, mostly with the people in a sewing circle but also through her work and a budding romance is also on the horizon.

When a local sweetheart is found dead (by Torie) behind a dumpster outside the library life starts getting more complicated. Torie starts doubting if she will ever fit into the very close-knit community. While trying to deal with the major issue of murder Torie is also dealing with a series of small issues like disappearing light bulbs, boxes of books that appear overnight and other strange things seem to "go missing" on a daily basis.

I had an inkling of the murderer but the motive was totally a surprise and there were enough twists and turns to make me doubt my guess. All in all a good book, very good for a first in a series. ( )

One of the first 'cozy mysteries' I've read. And I really enjoyed it. The characters were really great. The story wasn't focused on all of the details of how the person murdered looked. It got straight to the point and moved on to trying to solve the case. Definitely can't wait to read another.
I loved how Tori helped Lulu to not be so shy around others. Lulu was my absolute favorite character of all. I did not expect the book to end like it did. The murder was someone I never even considered. But, it did make sense. Overall, a great book. Can't wait to read the next in the series. ( )

I chose to read this book in my little cozy mystery spree. I didn’t know if I would like the theme of sewing, but it was quite a lot of fun. The group of ladies involved in the sewing circle were of different ages, stages of life, and careers.

I liked Tori the main character. I could relate to her and enjoyed the relationships that she developed as well as the ideas she had for the library. She did kind of get blindsided when given the job as library director. This provides a lot of angles to the story which I really enjoyed.

Even though I wasn’t head over heels for the book, it was a good book with good solid ideas and writing. I will definitely continue with the series. I recommend this book to all cozy readers. ( )

Tori is delighted to have been offered the job of town librarian in Sweet Briar, South Carolina, to get away from her cheating ex. She starts gently revolutionising the library and adds a children's corner to the library and then starts to win over the women's sewing circle. Just as her life is starting to settle and she becoming accepted a local girl is murdered and found at the rear steps to the library.

The police investigator thinks Tori is the culprit and gradually the towns folk start to believe him. Tori has to rely on her new friends to help her prove her innocence.....

A really easy read and the first in a series..... ( )

She wasn't entirely sure whether it was the pull of the mahogany sewing box in the window or a much-needed respite from the endless barrage of curious glances, but either way, Elkin Antques and Collectibles seemed as good a place as any for a momentary escape.
