Freddy's own off the wall antics and slightly pompous attitude keep him off any hero pedestal and allow the reader to celebrate victories and anguish over mistakes with him. Lessons in friendship and responsibility are humorously learned along the way with a cast of characters as vivid as Freddy himself. ( )
