Not my favourite Barclay book so far but quite good fun. It did end quite suddenly, not in a bad way, more in the "Omg, there's only 10 pages left" kinda way. ( )

Non aveva chiamato per avvisare e non era raggiungibile al telefono. La verità è che non sarebbe mai tornata quella sera. Né quella successiva. Né quella dopo ancora. Nessuno sa nulla. Nemmeno all'albergo dove Sydney aveva trovato lavoro per l'estate. O almeno, così lei aveva fatto credere a suo padre: perché, all'albergo, nessuno sa chi sia Sydney Blake. Mentre la polizia aggiunge il caso all'infinita lista delle persone scomparse, il ritrovamento della macchina della ragazza, con evidenti tracce di sangue sulla portiera e sul volante, smentisce l'ipotesi di una semplice fuga da adolescente. Nel frattempo, il padre riceve una mail da una sconosciuta che sostiene di aver visto Sydney; quando però Tim cerca di incontrarla, scopre che è inesistente. È solo la prima di una serie di trappole e false piste che trascinano Tim in una rete di mistero sempre più intricata. In cui qualcuno cerca di incastrarlo. ( )

Linwood Barclay is fast becoming a favorite author. It seems like all his books so far have been very good. This one, like others he wrote, starts off fairly slow and keeps building up until it was hard to stop reading. The only minus to me is that, also like some others of his, the characters seem to make some bad decisions that seem obvious to me, but it gets them in trouble. However, they are usually under stress, and that makes it hard to think straight. Also, I'm an expert because I read a lot of books. ;-)

This one definitely had some surprises, but almost everyone lives happily ever after - except for several that didn't, that is. ( )

Tim is a used-car salesman. He and his ex-wife have one teenage daughter, Sydney. Sydney is staying with Tim for a while, when one day, they argue in the morning. Syd goes to work, but doesn’t come home. Tim does everything he can to find out what happened to his daughter.

It was really good. There are plenty of twists and turns, especially towards the end of the book. It’s the second book I’ve read by Barclay, and although I really liked Fear the Worst, I didn’t like it quite as much as No Time for Goodbye. I did think it was kind of cool that there was one reference to the plot and a character of No Time for Goodbye as well. ( )

Right up front I have to say I enjoy Linwood Barclay's storytelling and his "normal" characters. In this novel, the focus is on a divorced dad and car salesman whose teenage daughter disappears -- and whose life seems to be a lie. Where did she work? Why did she leave? Telling more would open up a can of worms and too much of the plot -- but to say the circumstances snowball into something beyond crazy is not to exaggerate. Enjoyable read, if a bit unrealistic. ( )
