Review: This book is about a little mouse named Mortimer who is longing and wanting to see green and wanting it to be spring. He over hears some big people talk about planting seeds, that they will turn green, produced lots of seeds, and grow, and that intrigues Mortimer into wanting to plant the seed that he has in his hand to see what happens. Each day Mortimer goes out to see if his seed has grown and turned green, but each day he is disappointed and has to keep telling himself that he needs to be patient. On the third day he goes out to see that is seed has sprouted and has turned green and in the end his seed blooms into a sun flower and produces a lot more seeds that Mortimer is going to use next spring.
Critique: This is a good fantasy because it teaches kids about the power of patience, and about gardening through a talking mouse who plants, grows, weeds, and waters a seed that turns into a sunflower. This is a good fantasy because in real life a mouse cannot plant, grow, weed, water, and talk.
