Non-techies tend to think of Excel as a database when in fact it is a spreadsheet. Access is a database, but many of us don't have experience with it and find its processes confusing. FileMaker Pro 10 is also a database but with a little more streamlined layout, process. If you need a database (for relational data like a library or means to track information), then FileMaker Pro might be what you need.
