This included three stories: The Singing Sands, A Shilling for Candles and The Daughter of Time. Of the three, the last is one of my all-time favorites. Inspector Grant is the sort of introspective detective I enjoy, and Tey manages to imbue all the characters in the stories with their own personalities and quirks. I wish she had written more of the Inspector Grant series. ( ) Read The Daughter of Time - that really is magnificent. I haven't done any research on the matter myself, but if Tey is correct in her reporting the conclusion is undeniable. And the fact that such a theoretically dry concept - correcting history's verdict on Richard III - is an engaging story as well shows how good a writer Tey is. Now I'm going to read the other two. I have read them before, I'm pretty sure, but they're not immediately memorable like Daughter and Brat Farrar. Huh. Now I've read The Singing Sands - and I have no idea whether I had read it before. I certainly had no idea what would happen next, and yet it all feels familiar - very strange. Good story, too - is this the first Grant? If so, he's neatly presented. No, actually it's the last! Poor Zoe. The chance way Grant got involved in the death was very elegant, and the depictions of the various places he goes, from the Hebrides to Marseilles to London, are beautifully done. It's a little odd, though, when I know Grant from Daughter of Time - in that he's laid up with a broken leg, in this he's recovering from a nervous breakdown. Does he always do his interesting work when he's ill? On to A Shilling For Candles. OK, there's a healthy Grant. Interesting - much more a police procedural than either of the others, for obvious reasons. And what a weird murderer and motive! The phrase that makes the title was never really explained, either. Grant's comprehension at the service was rather by-the-way. And absolutely everyone has secrets - why _was_ Marta looking at him like that? And I hope Erica pays attention to Robin eventually, Grant just isn't interested. Lots of beautifully drawn characters (normal for a Tey, of course), interesting story and situation(s), Now I want to read more Teys. And I definitely had not read this one ever before. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
