I think that this is a very funny and entertaining book. I recommend this book to all people who enjoy a laugh and like a good read.

The first in a three part series (or are more coming?) about a crazy place called Superopolis. Everyone, except the narrator, has a super power that is revealed during childhood. Many powers are pretty useless, and since this book is aimed at boys, lots of the powers are designed to entertain readers. Super smells, for example. Ordinary Boy, the protagonist, is the only person in Superopolis without a power, though the reader quickly realizes that his power is that he's smart. He and his friends go on a hunt for the one trading card they don't have, and while on this quest learn that their hero isn't really such a hero after all. A fun read. ( )

Overall, I planned to give this book 4 starts, but I had to take one away because of the flaw, but more on that later.

Welcome to Superopolis, where everybody is a superhero, and they all have super powers. Well, that's everyone except for one boy who doesn't have any powers, and his name is Ordinary Boy, or O Boy for short. O Boy's favorite Superhero is The Amazing Indestructo, who can't he hurt or killed. When O Boy and his friends (who all have super powers) find out that The Amazing Indestructo is coming out with trading cards, they want to get them all. That leads to the plot of the book. There is just three of a special super secret card, and O Boy and his friends want it. That being said, O Boy and his friends uncover a plot that can spell the end for Superopolis. That's all I really want to say on the plot.

****COULD BE SPOILERS START*****

This book has one major, major flaw. In Children's Literature, it's important that the kids solve the problem. No matter what they face, they, the kids have to solve the issues they face, and not adults. That's pretty much the law. That doesn't happen here. The super hero parents save the day, and that's a major no-no. That's why I had to take a star away, giving it three stars, and not four.

****COULD BE SPOILERS END *****

The writing in this book was okay. At times, it was on the child's level, then at times, the writing was over their heads and the odds are they won't get the jokes.

Overall, it was a pretty good read. If you have kids (esp boys) and you want to get them to read books, and have a life long desire to read, this is a good series to start them off on. They'll get a kick of some of the kids super hero powers.

Like I said, not great, but not bad either. I liked it, and will tell me students about it. ( )
