As the Daily Telegraph said at the time: "to read Mr. Smallman is to see Bach's Passions in a quite new perspective and - though we learn how much he owed to his predecessors - to marvel once again at the depth of feeling with which he infused tradtional forms." Ten new appendices amplify the text in light of recent scholarship; a new bibliography and preface have been added; and the list of passions available in modern editions has been newly revised. In addition, a new frontispiece depicting pages from a musical manuscript of Longaval completes the list of new features which make this fine study more valuable than ever. - Dust jacket.… (más)
