Twelve year old J.P. has his first crush on a new transfer student named Angela. Angela has J.P. distracted from everything in his life; it gets so bad that his teacher thinks that he is ill. Pretty soon Angela also believes J.P. is ill. That is because J.P. has made up a fatal and rare disease called, "triple famosis". The "disease" runs in his family. J.P. tells Angela she is one of the few people who know that he has this disease and ask her to keep this private. J.P.'s worst nightmare comes true at the school's annual Spring Fling: Angela has found out J.P.'s "fatal and rare disease" is nothing but a big lie. However, it turns out that Angela has a lie of her own; her father is not really a doctor. I would read this to a class when talking about honesty and how the truth always comes out. ( )

I thought that this was a very enjoyable young adult book. The story is about a young boy named J.P. who develops a crush on a new girl in his class named Angela. He begins to lie to her so that she will like him more and he gets caught up in his lies. At the end of the story, J.P. realizes that he was wrong to lie and he becomes honest and realizes that he is not interested in Angela, but instead he is happy because he is now true to himself. I believe that the story was set up very well. The chapters allowed for successful plot and character development. Also, young adults can relate to the storyline of having their first crush. But the story also teaches the important lesson of honesty and I believe that it is successful in portraying this message. I believe that the length of the book is appropriate and allows for sufficient detail and development without being daunting for young readers. Overall, I found this to me an enjoyable read for young students transitioning into young adult books. ( )
