HOT DAMN AND HELL YEAH is a cookbook opting for a casual approach to vegan cooking by ensuring the recipes are straightforward and the majority of ingredients are familiar and easy enough to find in the standard grocery store. The priority is placed on taste and providing delicious vegan incarnations of typical Southwestern food rather than prioritising health and nutrition value at the expense of flavour. With custom illustrations of skeletal characters in the old Southwest, Hot Damn is the vegan cookbook you didn't know you loved!… (más)

Looking forward to trying these recipes - especially cornmeal mush which I used to eat a lot as an undergrad. ( )

Okay, all you vegans out there who are hankering for some good Deep South cooking, this is the cookbook to get. Let’s face it, Southern food rocks, but in its traditional preparation, there is little for the vegan to indulge in. But why should we be denied these culinary pleasures? The creators of this split cookzine realized the tragedy of this denial and that is why they have done the hard work of veganizing virtually all the classic Southern dishes you know you’ve been craving (perhaps without even realizing it). Most of the recipes in this book are pretty easy and cheap to make, too, which makes it even more appealing. With clean straightforward type, neatly organized steps and ingredient lists, and an awesome cut-and-paste style, this is an attractive book that is sure to quickly gain gravy stains and dog-eared pages in your kitchen. A steal at five bucks! ( )

Possibly the tastiest Vegan cookbook I have ever used! Dispels the myth that vegan food is healthy and tasteless. The recipes are deep-fried, full of fat and sugar (and often booze), and very satisfying. The language is course. The ingredients are "normal." This book will turn any over pompous shunner of animal products into a laid back, deep-fried vegan. ( )

Two fantastic books in one (you flip it over to read the second book when you have finished the first) this book is definitely at the 'vegan purely for ethical reasons' rather than 'vegan for nutritional/health reasons', because the aim of these recipes is taste, not health. That said, there are some fantastic recipes in here, many of them as simple as they are tasty (just make the brownies and you will see what I mean).

The recipes do include honey in some cases, which is a product many (if not most) vegans would choose not to use. Don’t let this put you off – most vegan cooks are well aware of honey substitutes which would work just as well. Remember, veganism is a broad church, and we all walk our path a little differently.
