A Word About These Color Photographs...

Regardless of whether you are an indoor or outdoor birdwatcher, you are bound to delight in the fifty Arizona birds pictured here -- many of them photographed with their nests and their young, some of them captured in flight. The bird portraits in this portfolio are the work of the noted conservationist-photographer Eliot Porter, whose fine wild life photography is familiar to all nature-lovers through a variety of exhibitions, books, and magazines, and especially the Sierra Club Exhibit Format Series. Winner of two Guggenheim fellowships in photography, Mr. Porter has taken color pictures of birds throughout the United States, but the present selection focuses entirely on Arizona because of its unique variety of bird life. Each photograph portrays an Arizona bird in its particular habitat.
