The study of costume, it has long been generally acknowledged, is one of most fascinating interest, not alone to ladies, in whose domain primarily it may be supposed to lie, but also to the student of history, the sculptor, the painter, and indeed everyone who desires to look behind the dry pages of written history for evidences of the actual everyday life of the people.
