Greenfield’s cleaning lady of 15 years, Mrs. Lacey, gives notice. She is no spring chicken and says it’s time. Maggie finds it’s up to her to find a replacement. Problem is finding on as good as Mrs. Lacey was.
The one Maggie finds barely speaks English, but at least she gets the idea of what is required. Maggie leavers her on her own, but returns later to find the lady dead from a brutal beating and Greenfield’s new state-of-the-art stereo system is missing.
There has been a string of burglaries in the village and the police have yet to get a handle on it. Is Greenfield’s one of them? If so, why the murder? Greenfield is determined to find out who and get his expensive stereo system back. Maggie becomes the main sleuth on the case.
This is a fun, light read; a good variety of characters and good dialogue between them. Humour runs through the book along with the search for clues and answers. ( )
