What's Covered? Get to Know Hawai'i
: The island of O'ahu is a great big lū'au with Honolulu and Waikīkī, hot restaurants, and lively nightlife. Don't forget gorgeous white sand beaches, knife-edged mountain ranges, and cultural sites including Pearl Harbor.
The phrase Maui nō ka 'oi means "Maui is the best, the most, the tops." There's good reason for the superlatives. It's the most diversified Hawaiian island, perfect for families with divergent interests.

The Big Island of Hawai'i has two faces, watched over by snowcapped Mauna Kea and steaming Mauna Loa. The Kona side has parched, lava-strewn lowlands, and eastern Hilo is characterized by lush flower farms and waterfalls.

Kauai'i is the "Garden Isle" where you'll find the lush, greenfolding sea cliffs of Nāpali Coast, the colorful and awesome Waimea Canyon, and more beaches per mile of coastline than any other Hawaiian island.

Moloka'i is the least changed, most laid back of the Islands. Come here to experience riding a mule down a cliff to Kalapapa Peninsula, the Kamakou Preserve (2,744-acre wildlife refuge), and plenty of peace and quiet.

For years, there was nothing on Lāna'i except for pineapples and red-dirt roads. Today it attracts the well-heeled in search of privacy, with a few upscale resorts, archery and shooting, four-wheel-drive excursions, and superb scuba diving.

Note: This ebook edition is adapted from Fodor's Hawaii 2012,but differs in some content. Additionally, the ebook edition includes photographs and maps that will appear on black-and-white devices but are optimized for devices that support full-colo

My daughter had me buy this because she plans to visit Hawaii with her children before they finish high school. Actually I lived there as a child from ages 2 to almost 5 and have only a selective memory of the island, and photographs my parents took dressed in various costumes of the people living there...Korean, Japanese, and of course a hulu skirt.

Now I look at the book and realize I know nothing of the Other islands (my father was a Schofield Barracks)and only a memory much like Elvis Presley's Blue Hawaii, which I saw recently.

Like all the publisher's travel books this is first rate, and the fact the edition is a little old is not that important. Suggestions of trips, based on time available. excellent maps. Just what a travel book to take on a trip should be. ( )
