Arguably Ibsen's three greatest plays (or at least his three most successful in the long-term) fill the second of Meyer's six volume translation. As with the first volume, Meyer's intelligent notes and introduction provide a sympathetic understanding of how the plays worked in the 19th century, and of Ibsen's personal connections to his works. Yet, proactively, his up-to-date translation makes the plays vital to our era. Great stuff. (
