Tarma and Kethry are strong women, good friends, and don't need men to complete them. Neither do they object to having men around. I found this book refreshing because it's feminist without being man-hating. Too few books are about the friendships we treasure if we're lucky enough to have them--about friends who will live and die for each other. I like Lackey's writing anyway, but it's the friendship I remember about this book. ( )
