This is one of her early books and it reminds me a little of her "Critical Injuries", written about 10 years later. Both take up the theme of teenage crime and the redemption of the young person though relationship with an older person. "Getting Over Edgar" also has the concurrent and only momentarily intersecting story of a woman getting over the loss of her husband (loss being felt at two levels: separation and then his death). In this story the older person (Gwen) also finds a certain redemption through the relationship with the young person. Optimistic? Perhaps a little too much so for my liking. Gwen's husband, Edgar, walks out on their marriage in pursuit of excitement. The requisite red convertible, however, leads not to eternal youth but to a premature death by the 8.20 eastbound train. The story then follows Gwen and her uncharacteristic behaviour in the wake of Edgar's death. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
