Throw it away?... "Archaic spelling, capitalization, and punctuation in historical quotations have been modernized throughout the text." - WHY?? They are no longer "quotes" then...

Follow George Washington, Ben Franklin, and James Madison along with other delegates as they write the Constitution in order to form a more perfect country. Hear about some of the issues that arose along with some interesting facts.

Even though this is a picture book, I would teach to Fifth grade and up. I read it to my 2nd and 4th grader, while they said they liked it, I think most of it went over their heads. Great when teaching branches of government and the Constitution. ( )

There was turmoil in America and Americans were turning against each other. Twenty nine men met in the Pennsylvania State House to help fix the problem. There were many arguments. They then came to the Great Compromise and adopted it on July 16 that state voting was represented by population. The Constitution was then established and most of the men signed it. Ten states had adopted it by July 4th which called for celebration and a happy nation again. ( )

In this informational book, Cheney retells the writing of the Constitution, as well as describing in detail the many issues that arose during its creation. The roles of major influencers, such and Benjamin Franklin and James Madison, are incorporated into the story. The overall tone of tension accurately reflects the nature of the Constitutions creation. The facts and bibliography in the back of the book indicate that there was research done hole writing the book.

We the People: The Story of Our Constitution explains how our constitution came about. It's a very long picture book, longer than I expected, but it needs these extra details because this book explains the process our founding fathers went through when creating our constitution. This book is nonfiction and it shows how difficult things were back then and how if our founding fathers never created this constitution, things could be completely different. I learned a lot from reading this book and this would be great for an older grade like 5th grade. I think this would be a difficult book for younger readers. I like how the bottom of each page has a historical quote from George Washington, James Madison, James Wilson, John Dickinson, George Manson, and Benjamin Rush. The illustrations were done very well and shows how the characters emotion. I really liked this book and I would definitely read this book in a social studies class when learning about our founding fathers and the constitution. ( )
