Kreeft has selected the parts of Pascal's Pensées which best respond to the needs of modern man, and offers his own comments on applying Pascal's wisdom to today's problems. Addressed to modern skeptics and unbelievers, as well as to modern Christians for apologetics and self-examination, Pascal and Kreeft combine to provide a powerful witness to Christian truth. Christianity for Modern Pagans; Pascal’s Pensees Edited, Outlines and Explained. Peter Kreeft. 1993. I downloaded a copy of Pensees for the Kindle and intended to read a chapter of this book and then the corresponding “thoughts,” but Kreeft’s book is so interesting I ended up reading it. Maybe one day I’ll go back to the original. Nobody explains tough theological concepts like Kreeft! Pascal apparently jotted his “thoughts” down randomly and planned to organize them into a coherent book, but he died before he could do this. Kreeft does what he says in the subtitle and arranges the thoughts and explains them. The pagans I know are not interested in God or religion and are not searching so I doubt this would convince them; however believers will find a gold mine! What's the difference between a sound bite and a proverb? I think I would define a sound bite as a morsel of information that one can ingest and will probably soon forget. A proverb, on the other hand, is an idea that you can ingest and then contemplate, embrace, or even follow. It's a reminder of deeper things. Blaise Pascal's Pensées definitely fall into the "proverb" category. They are a series of notes written down for a book that he never lived to write. This book is Professor Peter Kreeft's collection, translation and commentary on Pascal's Pensées. He adds the organization and humor to make these profound thoughts into a delightful read. --J. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
