A fun browsing book that highlights the life of kids from countries around the world. "Grade 3-6?A delightful, attractive look at children from around the world. The authors spent two years meeting and photographing youngsters from every continent and more than 140 countries. The volume is divided by continent, which is introduced with photos of children, their names, and nationalities. Then a double-page spread features pictures of each child's food, eating utensils, housing, school, friends, and family. The text gives the young people a chance to comment on their favorite games, friends, and hopes for the future. The final section includes excerpts from the Kindersleys' travel diary. This book is factual, respectful, and insightful. It provides just the right balance of information and visual interest for the intended audience.?Joan Soulliere, Wenham Public Library, MA Copyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc." My kid finds all these other children a bit overwhelming I think--it doesn't help that each page is divided up into a series of little blurbs; it would have been better to have a main writeup on each child and their country/family/hobbies/whatever--but the way these children naturally inhabit their different lives and the way the book celebrates that makes me think how much we've lost (since the nineties when this book came out, that is, since the open world), how fast, in terms of our way of celebrating cultural diversity--I feel like the book is essentializing and exoticizing even as I know it's not. I really like it though. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
