"At long last things are looking up for our hero: the end of the world has been stalled indefinitely, the evil Pope Jacko is burning in Hell, and the arch-rival Paul Carnovitz has hit the skids in a big way. But life is about to throw Wormwood the biggest curveball imaginable. Maggie--blissfully unaware of her lover's devilish origins--has some very special news for him. And just when he's struggling with the possibility that he might have to finally grow up, something else begins to stir. . . something old and terrible, down in the depths of the Pit."--P. This was great. Jesus is back as a more prominent character, and his interaction with Wormwood is what takes the cake. Also, demonic Pope Jacko is a brilliant idea that's executed horrifyingly well. Loved it. The ending was great, too. ( )

To be honest, after having finished the first volume, I really didn't think there was going to be much to this.

I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, all the offensive shit was still there, but this collection actually seemed to have more empathy and soul than the first one (which Ennis is also very damn good at, and doesn't get enough credit for).

And this time, the art is handled by Oscar Jimenez. I have to say, I do love Jacen Burrows' stuff, but I think Oscar absolutely nailed it.

Having said all this, though I'm assuming (and I hope) that Ennis and company leave this one where it is. I'm guessing that's the case, nine years on. ( )
