Suspense Frank and Joe Hardy hear through a friend that a real Chinese junk is available for purchase in New York City. The boys think this might be a fun summer project, fixing up the boat and offering passenger ferry service to Rocky Isle, so they decide to go buy the boat. But they’re not the only ones interested in it…and the other parties seem to have harmful intentions toward the Hardys for refusing to sell up. I found this book thin and implausible, and riddled with stereotypes. It consistently refers to all of the characters from China as “the Chinese”, and the Hardys’ convenient-for-plot-purposes friend, Jim Hoy, is nearly always referred to as “the Chinese-American lad”. The writing is threadbare, and the dialogue tags (he insisted, she reminded, they chuckled, he grinned) are irritating. And the wish-fulfillment energy of these books was particularly strong when the boys went to get their boat pilot licences; how can you have “a perfect score” on a medical examination for that kind of thing? I found that line extremely annoying for some reason. So in short, don’t read this book. There are better Hardy Boys books. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
