"Nancy Dale, Army Nurse" has the standard plot line of the "Fighters for Freedom" books aimed at girls: a young small-town woman joins the military -- in this case, the Army Nurse Corps; she goes through training, solves a mystery or two via the wildest of coincidences, uncovers some spies, and finds a love interest in the end. A description of a party Nancy throws for wounded soldiers will make modern-day readers cringe (Nancy pulls out her confederate flag and the "boys from the Negro camp," who were brought in to sing spirituals, burst enthusiastically into "Dixie", etc.) ( )
