"Don't forget to write at once."   Young and alone, Rose Galbraith is about to embark on a long voyage from New York to Scotland when she encounters Gordon McCarroll, a former classmate. His generous bon voyage gift gives her connection to her homeland and the courage to go into the unknown.   Once on land again, Rose is whisked away to the formidable Warloch Castle. Unimpressed by the wealth of her mother's family, the girl of meager means can't help but feel like her relatives only want to use her for their own gain.   When can she get away to seek out her father's side of the family? Will letters from across the ocean renew her faith and give her hope for each new day?

I don't usually do this, but the back cover of this book describes it so well I will just quote it here: "Young, beautiful Rose is desperate! She and her beloved mother had planned to travel to Scotland so that Rose could discover her heritage. Then suddenly , Rose's mother had died. To honor her memory, Rose went through with the trip, though doing so meant going to live with the wealthy relatives who had shunned her mother for marrying outside of Scotland's elite." Rose will feel out of place in the castle and overhear a conversation about a scheme to marry her off to someone and she will flee to her father's relatives, where she will be warmly welcomed. There she will find a family who will love her.

I like the way this author always shares the message of God's salvation through Jesus Christ in each of her stories and she does it very well in this story. I also liked the surprise visit near the end of someone who had become very dear to Rose throughout this story. Well done and very much appreciated. But then I have always been a big fan of this author. ( )

Rose Galbraith folded her work dress and apron neatly, and laid them in the top of the packing box; with a trembling and determined hand she drove in the nails that were already stabbed through the missing board; then she cast a quick desolate glance about the room.
