The illustrations and the story were charming. I very much like to see illustrated images of snow. In this story, the park ranger has a cute little cottage. He shares his means with a lot of the critters.

One stormy, snowy night when the animals are packed in the cold snow, they knock of the ranger's door for compfort and saftey.

One little animal lead to another, to another and then to others. There were so many animals that the bed could not contain all of them.

I liked this one for the sheer story of the kind-hearted ranger. ( )

Percy the park keeper feeds all the animals in the park where he lives. All the animals know where Percy’s cozy little house is and one night a squirrel knocks at the door. He tells Percy that his bed is full of snow! Percy invites him to come inside. Soon two rabbits, a fox, a badger, two ducks, a hedgehog, and a whole family of mice come along wanting to join the squirrel in Percy's warm bed.

Percy’s bed is too small for so many animals.

What will Percy do? How will all the animals stay warm? And where will they all sleep?

=========

This charming bedtime story will entertain young readers. The targeted audience, ages two through six, will enjoy sharing the story with a grown-up. Giggles are sure to accompany the delightful story. The enchanting illustrations that accompany the story are sure to appeal to young and old alike.

Highly recommended. ( )

Percy, a kindhearted park keeper who always shares his lunch with the park's animal residents, finds himself sharing even more one snowy night, as the animals knock on his door, one by one, seeking shelter. Inviting each one into the warmth of his little hut, Percy soon finds pandemonium breaking out, as all the animals struggle to share the comfortable bed with him. Then, just when things seem to have come to a head, there is a mysterious and (for some) frightening noise beneath the hut...

Apparently one of a series of picture-books about Percy the Park Keeper, One Snowy Night is a book that made it onto my to-be-read shelf thanks to the appealingly wintry scene on the cover. I have a real weakness for images of snow falling, if done right. Unfortunately, I discovered that the artwork within - particularly the human figure of Percy himself - did not quite live up to my expectations, based upon the cover image. The style was just a little too cartoonish for me, and with the exception of the depiction of a few of the animals characters, not very appealing. The story was cute, with its surprise ending, and I can see young readers really taking to it, but in the end, this just was not for me. ( )

On a snowy night, Percy the Park-keeper gets visited by many cold animals seeking shelter. This book has at its hear a message about respecting nature, and treating all creatures equally. The theme of kindness and sharing can be discussed with children after reading. ( )

Percy the Park Keeper always feeds the animals in the park where he lives. But one cold winter’s night Percy discovers that his little friends need more than food and he must find a way to help them find a warm place to sleep for the night.
Percy’s hut is nice and warm but Percy discovers that if you invite one animal in you’ll have to invite them all in and his hut is only small – it’s certainly going to be a squash!
