SantaLand Diaries collects six of David Sedaris¿s most profound Christmas stories into one slender volume perfect for use as a last-minute coaster or ice-scraper. This drinking man¿s companion can be enjoyed by the warmth of a raging fire, the glow of a brilliantly decorated tree, or even in the back seat of a police car. It should be read with your eyes, felt with your heart, and heard only when spoken to. It should, in short, behave much like a book. And oh, what a book it is! ¿Acidly camp, bitchily kitsch and slickly satirical packages of out-there humour . . . very funny¿ Sunday Times… (más)

I had many laughs-out-loud while reading this and it reminded me of being taken to visit Santa as a child: the long lines of waiting parents and children, and my amazement at the utterly magical scenes while not ever noticing the shabby parts, that I’ve come to realize, were much more numerous. ( )

This was my introduction to David Sedaris. Anyone who's ever worked retail during the Holidays will love this. Totally hilarious. ( )

The elf story is far and away my favorite, but it's such a quick read I went ahead and read the whole thing again anyway. ( )

I picked this as a Christmas book for our book club. They truely hated it. The trouble is there is a tale which ends with a baby being killed by being put in the tumble drier. It is the second story and most of them didnt appreciate the black comedy of this and stopped reading. which was a shame as there were much better stories after this. However, I do think he didn't quite get the balance between humour and being macabre at all right. ( )

I picked this book up super excited that David Sedaris had written another holiday collections. To my surprise it was the exact same book as Holidays on Ice but with a different title. Tricky, tricky. I love his writing so I would recommend, but beware that Holidays on Ice is the same book as SantaLand Diaries. ( )
