Alice Starmore's Book of Fair Isle Knitting is a must-have resource for the serious knitter. The writing is engaging and witty, and I loved reading about the history of Shetland and Fair Isle—the place, not just the technique. This is a neat book if you are interested in hand knitting and it's history. The book tells about where Fair Isle work comes from, how it developed, where it developed and how to do it. There nare a few patterns at the back, if you are interested in following up after all that learning. ( )
