Get Well Gators is a wonderful non-fiction book about 5 alligators who participates in a fundraiser to help raise finances to remodel and reconstruct the playground. In the time of preparing and after the fundraiser five alligators portrayed as having humanistic functions become sick with swamp flu passed down from Allie, Amy, Gracie, Marvin and finally Dave. At the end the playground was now finished and the gators were all well and healthy to enjoy the playground and they all became friends.
Personal Reaction:
This is funny, because I am a witness being the middle child of my family I was around both my big sister and my little brother and occasionally when one got sick we all became sick at the time when we were trying to get something accomplished. Just like the gators, there is nothing worse than trying to get something accomplished when all of the sudden you become sick by another person that you were trying to help feel better.
Classroom Extensions:
1. Discuss to the children how alligators become sick and vulnerable to sickness/disease.
2. Have the children to create what they would look like if they were an alligator and what would be their new name.
