Summary: In this book it explains the day of a very happy dog named Slippers who was wanting to have a fun day but everyone in the house was busy. Daddy was at work, mommy was outside, Laura was at school, and Edward was sleeping. So he went to lay in his house but he kept hearing and smelling things that he thought was one of his owners but he did not find them, so he stayed content with what he did find for the time being. This was helping mommy with the garden, taking Edward’s shoe, and chewing on Laura’s cap. Then later on after Edwards nap, Slippers found himself getting sleepy and took a nap.

Personal Reaction: From growing up with 4 dogs, I have understood that a lot of pups actually go through what this dog went through and this is what causes them to get in so much trouble, when they are not really doing anything to get in trouble. When it comes to pets you have to show them just as much love and affection as you give your own kids. Sometimes it is not easy but that’s just because some people do not take the time out to do it.

Classroom Extensions: 1.) In class I would have everyone draw a picture of their favorite pet.
2.) I would have all the students tell me what they would do to keep their pet happy.
3.) As a fun environment I would have a contest to see who can make the best noise that their pet makes.

This book would be good for first or second grade. There are quite a few words on each page so that is why I think it would be appropriate for this age group.
