On Holi, everyone goes around in new white outfits, and throws handfuls of colored powder called gulal at people. It's even acceptable to throw them at complete strangers. The day is also celebrated with visits to the temple, and eating pichkari, or sweets. The book explains each of these things in an easy to follow way, and includes pictures of people doing each of the things shown in the photos. Then, at the back of the book there is a word bank with explanatory pictures of all of the strange words in the book. Overall, this tome is a good multicultural text that would have a place in many elementary libraries, especially ones with a large Hindu population. ( )
