Henry embellishes his stories to friends during show & tell. His classmates call him out as being a "fibber", but Henry's teacher suggested that he write his highly imaginative stories down on paper. Henry's show & tell stories are boring now, so his friend calls him out saying his stories are boring now. Henry comes up with a great solution of reading his stories out loud during show & tell and everyone is happy w/o anyone fibbing. ( )

Henry tends to exaggerate his experiences at show-and-tell time, but when his teacher recommends that he use his imagination to tell stories instead he finds his niche.

A good example of fantasy because of the personification of the mouse, Henry, and all other characters in the story. While Carlson made them animals, they behave as humans would, going to school, having show and tell, and writing stories. Because their characteristics so closely resemble humankind, it is easy to relate this story to one's own life as well as be entertained by the different animals. This book offers the reader new confidence in utilizing the imagination and using every skill constructively.

This is one of my LEAST favorite types of picture books. The main character--a kid--has a problem, and an adult tells the kid how to solve that problem. Kids already don't have control of solving almost all their problems in real life--why do we have to take it away in stories too?

The illustrations are fine, and the text isn't too long. But I just can't enjoy a book where the main character doesn't solve his or her own problem. ( )
