"Shrewbettina's Birthday", by John S. Goodall is a traditional fiction picture book. In my opinion this picture book would not be productive for a young reader to view. Specific characters were difficult to identify at some points throughout the book due to changes in character's attire. More specifically, a young reader could confuse the characters because different aprons that the main character wore throughout the story. In addition, the book doesn't have any real important message. The only conflict in the story was a shrew that stole from the main character and in my opinion a huge opportunity was missed by the author in teaching a lesson of forgiveness. The main character absolves the shrew who stole from her but you never see that particular character at the ending birthday party. Had the author showed the shrew who stole at the end of the story at the birthday party, the viewer would gain the insight that the main character forgave the shrew who stole. Without a fundamental lesson like forgiveness, a young reader would have difficulty making any sort of real meaning from this story. ( )

Shrewbettina is slepping. Then she wake up at 7 o'clock. She goes out of her home, a thief take her purse away. A man helps her take her purse back to her. They are happy. Then they buy something to bake a birthday cake. At the end of the story, they celebrate Shrewbettina's birthday party. They dance and sing. Another day starts again.
