It all starts with Nancy Drew and her friends Bess and George trying to find the perfect dress for the biggest party of the season. But as fate would have it Nancy would just happen to be wearing the same dress as her rival and the host's daughter, Deirdre. After a fit of temper from Deirdre, Nancy decides to go home and change. Shockingly, before she can make it home, Nancy is kidnapped shortly followed by Deirdre. The two girls must come together and forget their rivalry to find their freedom again and discover the truth.
Stefan Petrucha, Sarah Kinney, and Sho Murase have recreated Carolyn Keene's classic Nancy Drew in a modern day graphic novel form. This new form may draw many students because of its great graphics, modern day relatibility, and sustained excitement. This classic series remade is great for third to seventh grade and could even by fun to use as a comparison/ contrast essay with the original version.
I had tried to begin reading the Nancy Drew series when I was in elementary school, and I was never truly able to get into it. Although I am not a big fan of comic books or graphic novels, I enjoyed this fast paced, quick read with modern day connections. Nancy and her friends were very relate-able and the dialogue boxes made it very easy to tell who was talking unlike others I have read in the past. I would recommend this book as I good, quick read for anyone who struggled to get into the Nancy Drew original series.

Nancy, Bess and George are shopping for dresses for Deidre’s party. Nancy finally found a dress she likes. When she arrives at the party, she’s shocked to see Deirdre in the same dress! Deidre thinks Nancy purposely chose the dress to spite her. Not wanting to ruin her party, Nancy decides to leave. As she is walking out, she’s kidnapped! Later Deirdre is also kidnapped. The girl detective must work with her rival in order to solve the mystery. ( )
