This short story is a prequel to the Lords of the Underworld series but it’s not necessary to read this story to understand or enjoy the other books.
All throughout the LOTU series, Pandora’s box is said to have been made from the bones of the Goddess of Oppression. Kadence, the goddess, is spiritually bound to the wall of Hell. Geryon, Hell’s guardian, was a human who sold his soul to Lucifer. They’ve never talked while watching and guarding Hell’s gates but they’ve admired one another from afar. When the Demon Lords (demons like Violence, Death, Lies, Wrath, Distrust, etc) crack the wall, Kadence and Geryon band together to try and stop them from escaping and wrecking havoc on earth. They fall in love in the process and soon learn death isn’t always the end.
Though I’m glad to finally know more about the goddess and how her bones (the box) can hold the demons, I don’t think this story had much depth or detail. It’s nice to read through it but it just didn’t have much to do with the series overall.

First read in 2012; taking this off the angst shelf after re-reading in 2018. I think I was more enamored with the series back then, and it inflated my view of the story. There is some mild insecurity and cute awkwardness between two people who are into each other and don't realize it is requited, but it's too short and sweet to truly be angsty enough to qualify for a favored trope shelving. ( )

Better than the first time

It's crazy but I hav
e read at least 12 of the books in this series but could not finish this first book the first time I read it.
I had read a review that said not to judge the series on this book because this book wasn't anything like the other books so I just stopped and started the next book.
There were two reasons I didn't finish it the first time. The first was the goddess had the hots for a guy with fur and hooves. That was way too freaky for me back then. The other reason was because Kadence was just too sweet and perfect. I like my female protagonist to be a little flawed and rough around the edges.
This time around, I enjoyed it much more. ( )

This was short, and the characters don't appear to have interacted much in the past, but they are each already in love with the other to a very strong degree, so... maybe it's a soul thing. I'm not sure I knew what to make of it until it was suddenly over, lol. But the ending was a surprise, (which is kind of rare in these) =D so that was a nice touch. ( )

This was, without a doubt the worst waste of my time.
If this was suppose to set up an entire world, it was a terrible attempt at it. The characters have literally ZERO chemistry.
They pinned for each other for like 400 years and then after 1 hour of speaking to each other, they are madly in love with one another and willing to LITERALLY die for each other and also proclaim eternity for one another, what the hell is this nonsense. The last 5 chapters left me in pain from laughter, I just kept laughing at the sheer stupidity of the story.

The last 5 chapters in nutshell:

Lets bang to make a new bond, then flash to the demons to destroy them but then, oh no my power doesn't work now im dead, oh no my love is dead, I know let me kill myself to join her. And then all the demons escaped and caused chaos across the land, The end!

Seriously what the hell??? I read this with my friend and we could not stop laughing at the lack of real storytelling going on with this novella. Calling it rushed is an understatement. ( )
