See What I Have Been Reading, November 2010 at From Word to Word This is the transcript of the famous play that was performed in 1977 in Kenya, which led to the imprisonment of Mr. Thiong'o later that year, and his ultimate decision to leave his homeland in 1982. I Will Marry When I Want is a searing critique of the different elements that led to the breakdown of traditional Kenyan society, and is most critical of wealthy Kenyan landowners and businessman, who conspire with Western businesses to plunder the country's resources and deprive the average Kenyan of a decent standard of living. It is also well written, with frequent use of humor and Gikuyu songs, and I can only imagine how much better it would be to see this play in performance. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
