Harry's best friend, Doug, narrates this story about Harry's new obsession with earwigs. Harry has always liked bugs, and he doesn't see why no one else shares his enthusiasm. Both the girls and boys in his class run screaming when he pulls out Edward, his pet earwig, or when he tries to explain to them the fascinating things that he has learned about earwig anatomy. He is genuinely interested in the bugs and isn't trying to scare anyone off, so he is sad that almost nobody shares his passion. Harry finds the solution to his problem when he adapts his group's presentation of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' to be 'Goldilocks and the Three Bugs.' He makes his friends feel comfortable with the bugs by giving them a chocolate 'worm' dessert and by explaining to them that earwigs don't really climb in people's ears. He is happy to see that the class appreciates his work on the play.
