This book is remarkable for including a gay wedding, but not really being about a gay wedding. It's mostly about a little girl who's worried that her favorite uncle won't have time for her after he gets married. ( )

Bobby is Chloe’s favorite uncle. They had lots of adventures, and Bobby seemed to understand little Chloe like no one else. So Chloe was upset when Bobby announced he was getting married. Would she be pushed aside? It turned out however, that his betrothed, Jamie, was as fun as Bobby, and paid even more attention to Chloe!

Chloe exclaimed, “I wish both of you were my uncles!” And of course she found out she would get her wish: she was not losing someone at all, but gaining someone.

The book ends with the wedding of Bobby and Jamie, and everyone happy.

Illustrations by Lucia Soto take the form of colorful cartoon art.

Evaluation: The fact that Bobby and Jamie are of the same gender is not central to the plot at all; rather, it has to do with the fear of change in relationships. The book, for ages 4 and up, offers the lesson that the heart is large, with room for much love all around. ( )

A cute little story that, although labeled as a "gay" book, is about more than just that. It deals with an issue that a good number of children may have to deal with: their favorite/dearest adult figure is getting married and the child fears they will be left behind. Chloe loves her uncle Bobby. So, when Bobby announces he is getting married to Jamie, naturally, Chloe is worried. This is another very nice, heartwarming book for children. Sure, the two uncles are gay, but they just happen to be gay; it is not really the main issue in the book. This is definitely one children will likely enjoy. Very cute illustration work featured. ( )

I enjoyed this little book; it was about a young girl who's uncle is getting married in a same sex marriage. She is worried that her uncles will forget her after they get married, but she realizes they won't. They just want to start a family and begin their own lives together. Her uncles can tell she is upset about the marriage, so they both spend a day with her and console her. She realizes her uncles aren't going to forget her, now she has 2 great uncles instead of one. In the beginning of the novel, she was very weary of the marriage, but once she knows her uncles aren't going to abandon her she is relived and all for the marriage. She didn't realize they weren't going to abandon her, until she had her uncle's point of view. ( )

This book is about Chloe, who's uncle is getting married to another male. Chloe is upset because she enjoys being with her uncle and is worried he will forget about her after the wedding. Uncle Bobby reassures her that they will still spend time together and asks her to be the flower girl. She accepts and enjoys Uncle Bobby and Uncle Jamie's company. What I enjoyed most about the author's work is her descriptions. "bottles of fizzy cider" "the air smelled like roses" "Everyone danced until the moon rose." ( )

Brannen's story takes something that is, regretfully, still not normative in our society and asks, "what if it was?" In doing so, it shows us how a child can be made to feel safe and loved, and how her life can be enriched when she is protected from the burden of being taught to fear others who are different.
