I really enjoyed this book as I have the several other books by Penny Hayes I have read. I did not realize what type of hardships new immigrants faced, in the early 1900's. I can only imagine the increased stress, anger, frustration, etc. of a "Romantic Friendship" in those times.
Along with the limit of options available to any young woman from another country with no realatives, friends, job, etc. waiting for you in America after leaving your native land and traveling all those days in wrenched conditions and just hoping you live to see America!
Penny Hayes is one of my favorite Lesbian writers and love how she usually combines romance with historical history. I certainly enjoy her "history lessons" mixed with lesbian lives.
I recommend this book and all the other books by this author. ( )

Penny Hayes has captured the loneliness and desperation of the young immagrants in the 1900's in Chicago. Deplorable living conditions, hopeless outlook on life. Until love finds its way into their lives. And then the horrible Triangle Shirtwaiste Fire happens. ( )
